Remote position, located in New England

Want to make a real difference in the world—and enjoy doing it?

At Abode Energy Management (Abode), we care deeply about the work we do and the impact it has on our planet’s future. As proud members of 1% for the Planet, we back that care with action—donating at least 1% of our annual revenue to vetted environmental nonprofits. We’re a fast-growing energy efficiency program implementer in the Northeast, leading the way in electrification and heat pump adoption. Our team is fun, kind, passionate, and progressive—and we offer a competitive benefits package to match. That includes Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability Insurance, a matching 401(k), and fully paid Parental Leave. We also believe you should be able to balance your work and personal life, so we offer generous paid time off (about 37 days a year!) and reasonable flexibility in when and where you work. If you’re looking for meaningful work, caring coworkers, and a great company culture, come join us.

Summary/Objective

Abode plays a critical role in managing the residential component of the Mass Save® program, ensuring operational efficiency and ensuring that Home Performance Contractors consistently adhere to program standards.

Abode is the lead vendor for two initiatives that tie into this role.

  1. Turnkey Services: which aims to help moderate-income homeowners by providing incentives and a clear path for them to improve their homes with energy-saving upgrades, such as weatherization, heat pumps, and heat pump water heaters.
  2. Heating and Cooling Initiative: Market-rate and enhanced heat pump offerings through the Residential Rebate program.
    • Heat Pump Leaders Network installations are inspected by Abode.

This role has two primary focuses:

  1. Reviewing heat pump inspection reports for Turnkey and HPLN Heat Pump inspections completed by Abode Inspectors.
    • This includes managing callbacks and following up with inspectors, contactors, and customers as needed.
  2. Reviewing heat pump proposal documentation submitted by contractors at several points throughout the process—from the first planning stages to the project’s completion—and reaching out to resolve any issues identified.

Abode’s involvement not only helps contractors stay on track but also ensures that homeowners have a positive experience and get the support they need. It’s a great opportunity for someone with relevant heat pump experience who wants to apply and expand their technical knowledge and skills to facilitate the installation of high-quality projects in communities that need it most.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Specialist’s responsibilities will include:

Technical Review of Heat Pump Inspection Reports:

  • Review the Heat Pump inspection reports that are completed by field inspectors.
  • Ensure clear and consistent scoring and language is used across all reports.
  • Provide feedback to inspectors or the Inspection field manager as needed.
  • Manage callbacks and ensure contractors swiftly address issues.

Technical Review of Projects:

  • Complete a detailed review of quote submissions. This will include reviewing heat pump project details as well as other pre-weatherization opportunities (knob and tube removal, mold remediation, vermiculite remediation, structural concerns, etc.) This will also include ongoing project tracking and providing feedback to contractors.
  • Ensuring that the contractors' documents and processes are complete and correct in the Mass Save® software.
  • As time permits, identify trends from such reviews to help the Manager make improvements to the overall work processes.

Internal Support:

  • Meeting regularly with internal teams to review the status of projects and clients, as well as bigger picture strategies to ensure ongoing success in the program.
  • Assist with meetings with contractors to discuss specific projects as needed.
  • Maintain and update program databases and customer management systems.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Manager.

Customer Support:

  • Actively respond to email and phone inquiries related to program needs from customers and contractors.
  • Respond to and provide ongoing support for resolution of customer and contractor issues.

Qualifications
Must haves:

  • Previous experience with heat pump technology and residential heating systems.
  • Previous experience working hands-on with some element of the Mass Save® program is highly desirable for this position.
  • Some knowledge of residential construction and/or building science.

Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated aptitude with software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Salesforce.  Comfortable finding and presenting data clearly and logically, working across software programs as needed.
  • Detail-oriented, good math skills, ability to multitask; able to methodically keep track of many moving pieces within an overall rubric of detailed program rules.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume transactional role where it was important to balance maintaining throughput while adhering to quality standards.
  • Clear, effective, structured oral and written communications skills.
  • Adaptable, flexible, collaborative team player who brings a positive can-do attitude.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.
  • Associate’s degree or higher and/or comparable knowledge gained through relevant experience.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position with total compensation targeted between $70K and $80K, depending on relevant skills and experience.  The Specialist will work most of the time out of their own home, with some travel as needed to work with other staff in Abode’s Concord office and/or to attend events or meetings.  Abode offers its employees a competitive benefits package, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability Insurance, a matching 401k, and fully paid Parental Leave. Employees have a flexible working schedule and generous paid time off (~37 paid days off, or ~15% of all weekdays).
